Murdered Cupcakes!

Halloween is the best part of October, so I’ve decided to share some of my favorite Halloween-themed cupcake designs with you this month. First up are these Murdered Cupcakes made by user Lethargic over at craftser.org. They were made for a Dexter season premiere party but would also be great for Halloween! I love them!

Cupcakes On My T.V.? Yes!
Posted on
I just started watching a new T.V. show on CBS called “2 Broke Girls” that could be promising. It’s a pretty run-of-the-mill multi-cam sitcom, but it has two great stars that could make this show great. The show is about a fairly broke girl, Max, played by the sardonic Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), who works two jobs, one of which as a waitress at a small diner. Her new roommate/ coworker Caroline, played by Beth Behrs, is newly poor due to her dad’s conviction for running a Ponzi scheme on half of New York’s wealthy, and tries to make ends meet by “slumming” it on the street.
Max likes to make awesome cupcakes and sell them at the diner, and Caroline, stepping into her dad’s business shoes, decides that they should begin saving money to set up a cupcake business together and start bringing in the big bucks. She postulates that they’ll need $250,000 to start it up and that it could be achieved within a year if they both work two jobs. Whether her objective is realistic or not, she has a plan, and the two seem to be connecting with this cupcake shop goal in mind. Each show ends with how much they’ve saved up to that point.

Max (Kat Dennings) brings cupcakes to the diner, one of which is enjoyed my Earl (Garrett Morris), the cashier
So far I like the show a lot. The dialogue is fresh and witty but at times tries a little too hard to be edgy. Overall, the show could become a lot better once the drastic stereotypes of each of the characters die down a little and if the dialogue stays as witty.
I don’t know if the cupcake angle of the show will continue to be a main plot line, but I’ll keep watching and pretend that it’s me planning to open a cupcake shop.

Halloween Is Sneaking Up On Me
Posted onSeeing as Halloween is about a month and a half away, I need to start planning my ghoulish treats. I like to go all out for Halloween, including my costume, so it’s pretty important to pre-plan what I’m going to make and how it’s all going to be done before I leave for whatever party I go to. Last year, I worked like a madwoman trying to get my Cruella Devil costume together as well as five different dishes done for a party that night. It was exhausting. So this year, I probably won’t do as many treats. But I will be doing a batch of cupcakes!
So in the theme of my costume this year (zombie nurse), I want to make zombie themed cupcakes as well. Woot.com had an awesome t-shirt design a while ago that I’ve been wanting to recreate for some time now. It’s called the Last Cupcake and can be seen below:
We’ll see if I can pull it off.
Are you making any special treats for Halloween this year? Am I crazy for even asking about that more than a month in advance? What have you made in the past?
Logo Concern
Posted onI was recently made aware that my new logo ended up looking similar to another company’s logo. To avoid any issues with that, I asked my logo artist to modify the one he made to make it less similar. We decided on using crossed spatulas instead of bones. I think I like it more now anyway.

Summer Sushi Cupcakes
Posted onOne of my favorite things to eat during the summer is sushi. Because of that, I made sushi cupcakes for a 4th of July party this past weekend. I know sushi isn’t really a very American patriotic theme, but I wanted my cupcakes to be a little different and unexpected. I was
thinking of making hamburger cupcakes since that goes with the BBQ theme of the party I was at, but sushi cupcakes were a much newer concept to me, so I tried them instead. I planned to make a whole batch of them but they took so long to put together I decided that 12 was enough.
Items I used to decorate the cupcakes included jelly beans as roe, yellow cake strips as egg, apple fruit
roll-ups for seaweed, orange slice gummy candy for pieces of salmon, and cut up pieces of fruit chews (like Starbursts) and gummy bears as the insides of some of the sushi rolls. For the “rice” I used white frosting and coconut flakes. I was going to use white sprinkles as well for rice but could not find regular old white sprinkles anywhere!
Thankfully the cupcakes were well received at the party. I know some people could have been turned off by the idea of “raw fish” on a cupcakes. Now I must figure out what I’ll be making and decorating next. I might give cake pops another try.
